How To Change An Air Conditioning Condenser

When an air conditioning condenser is defective, repairing or replacing it is necessary in order to benefit from all the performance of this type of cooling unit. Relatively reliable, the air conditioning Sydney condenser has the role of cooling the gases overheated by compression before they arrive in the cold production space: the regulator.

What is the role of the air conditioning condenser?

First of all, remember that to obtain pleasant thermal comfort in your accommodation in summer, the proper functioning of the air conditioning system is essential. Know more than to cool the ambient air effectively, while avoiding overconsumption of the device, your home must be equipped with good insulation capacities.

The air conditioning condenser is a centerpiece of an air conditioner placed between the compressor and the expansion valve. The system is simple: The pressure exerted by the compressor makes it possible to transform the refrigerant gas into vapor then into the liquid which generates heat.

The gas is therefore hot. The condenser, a kind of radiator, will then collect the liquid and hot refrigerant gas to cool it. In fact, the gas circulating in the radiator/condenser will be able to exchange its heat with the ambient air before being injected into the regulator. Once cooled to room temperature, the gas passes through the regulator to go from the liquid state to the gaseous state.

Thus evaporating the gas will have to expend a lot of energy and therefore cool and ensure the refrigeration of the air in your room.

There are two types of heat exchanger for air conditioning systems:

The air conditioning units (wall mounted air conditioner, inverter air conditioner, split air conditioner, monobloc air conditioner, fixed air conditioner, reversible air conditioner, and other types of air conditioners) are mainly equipped with an air condenser.

Certain air condensers can be installed inside a dwelling (eg portable air conditioners). On most models of fixed air conditioners, the condenser is placed outside (outdoor unit on a terrace, a balcony for apartments, etc.). When the condenser is installed inside the housing, an exhaust duct to the outside must be provided.

The operating principle of air condensers is as follows:

A fan forces air to pass through a coil. This coil is provided with fins allowing to multiply the surface of contact with the air. The refrigerant releases its calories in contact with the air-cooled coil walls.

Waste water condensers

Wastewater condensers are noisy and bulky. They are rarely found in buildings intended for housing and much more often in professional premises. The efficiency of this type of device is much higher than that of the air conditioner.

To limit noise pollution, the cooling tower (also called an autonomous condensing unit) is to be installed outside the building. If you have a suitable room, it can also be placed inside the infrastructure.

Be aware that wastewater condensers work with potable water. It is an unhealthy air conditioning solution since water consumption is quite high. The operating principle of this device is as follows:

Water spray jets pass through the horizontal temperature exchanger (the condenser). The water is thus transformed into vapor. Steam is extracted from the air conditioner. It dissipates into the ambient air of the house through high ventilation.

The hot water is discharged into the wastewater treatment system. For individuals, only air capacitors are generally used

How is a condenser failure diagnosed?

Only a professional can diagnose a fault in the air conditioning circuit, whether or not the condenser. The maintenance technician searches for a leak by emptying the air conditioning circuit. This operation then allows him to make a "vacuum draw". It can thus test the quality of the circuit's tightness. Once this step has been completed, the refrigerant is injected again.

To identify the slightest leak, he injects a tracer cartridge composed of a special dye. This highly reactive UV dye makes it easy to identify the slightest leakage of refrigerant. Therefore, to determine the source of a leak, the professional uses a UV lamp which will reveal a hole or a crack from which the tracer escapes.

Spare parts difficult to find

If your air conditioner condenser breaks down, it is usually difficult to change it yourself, since the spare parts are generally reserved for professionals. To avoid a capacitor problem, it is, therefore, better to subscribe to a regular maintenance contract for your air conditioning system.

The cost of replacing an air conditioning condenser is relatively high. A professional must obligatorily take care of this type of repair because the condenser is integrated into a closed circuit.

To change the air conditioning condenser, you must, therefore, have the tools and skills necessary to open the refrigeration circuit. Finally, the refrigerant gases it contains are polluting substances whose handling is regulated.

Can we only repair an air conditioning condenser?

The radiator of a capacitor is generally a very reliable part. Therefore, the refrigerant gas leaks are located on the peripheral parts and in particular at the welding points of the pipes of the refrigeration circuit. If this is the case, the cost of repair is much lower than changing the condenser. However, it will again be necessary to call in a professional.

Note that the repair of the welds leads in most cases to the appearance of leaks since the weld points are subjected to high pressure during the operation of the device.
